Jeff Bridges Temporarily Loses His Voice(over).

Jeff Bridges has been doing the voiceovers for Hyundai’s recent pools of very good car commercials. Perhaps you noticed, like me, that on last night’s Oscar broadcast, all of Hyundai’s spots were voiced by other talents. I wondered what was up with that.

A couple of sites – Zimbio and E!Online – have the answer. Zimbio: “The Academy has a rule that limits the use of nominees in commercials that air during the Oscars, because they don’t want endorsements to interfere with the broadcast.”

E!Online says the substitute voiceovers included Catherine Keener, Kim Basinger, David Duchovny and Richard Dreyfuss, and quotes Hyundai’s marketing VP as saying, “We’ll be happy to return to our normal casting after the show.”
